Is there a way to backup a hard drive remotely?
- Windows is corrupted on my main PC, and I haven’t had a chance to back it up in a very long time. Is there any way at all that I could possibly get the data off the hard drive without having to boot to Windows (ya know, since it doesn’t work). I have an external hard drive ready, I just need to know if this is at all possible so I can wipe the hard drive and reinstall a uncorrupted version of windows.
The easiest way in my opinion is to use a docking station to mount your hard drive in. Of course you’ll have to purchase a docking station but they are not expensive. The only major thing you’ll need is a 2nd computer to use. The process would be to remove the hdd from your current computer. Plug the USB docking station into the 2nd computer you are using and make sure it is turned on. Plug the hdd into the docking station. Watch the LED on the docking station as it normally will blink until your hdd is fully accessible. Once the led stops blinking you can access your hdd and burn your data to a DVD, flash drive, etc. Accessing the hdd in the docking station is no different than when you access the files/data in your external hdd. Hope this helps.
